Viva Las Vegas...

As you read this I am either in the air or at the hotel - or maybe I have returned.  Who knows?  I am going to Vegas.

"Vegas Baby!" as has been said by many before.

But, you see I will be going for work and most of my time in Vegas will be spent...

There in the Convention Center in a booth.  Talking to customers, prospects, doing demos of our new software...pretty exciting stuff, huh?  For those of you who travel for work, you get it.  For those of you who think, "Must be nice to get a free trip." Think again.

I hate traveling for work.

Sure there are benefits.  I get the bed to myself, I don't have to get anyone ready to go anywhere but myself, and I don't have to cook or clean up anything.

But - I have to be in a hotel room by myself, I don't get hugs and kisses and good nights, and I may pick a restaurant that just is not worth the calories by accident.

Plus, the bonus of this:

Airplanes are scary to me.  I didn't used to be a nervous flyer - I could walk around during turbulence, be unconcerned with being in a tiny puddle jumper over the North Sea.  Nothing about an airplane scared me.  Then, I became a mom.  I don't know what it is, but since my first work trip after having the Boo Boo I have been deathly afraid to get on and be on an airplane.  Logically?  I know the chances are pretty terrific that it is fine.  But the take-off, OY the take-off.  I squeeze my eyes shut and scream internally...trying so hard not to freak out my seat mate.  I just cannot take the take-off.  And then when they reduce the thrust of the engines because you are high enough up...I start to cry because I am sure something is horribly wrong and we are going to plummet to the ground below.

I know, crazy.  I am totally crazy, but I am sitting here writing this and crying.  Actual tears running down my cheeks I am so scared to get on that airplane Sunday morning.

And why?  Well, if you thought you might not be around for this:

You might cry too.

So am I the only one?  Do you have irrational fears of something?

And don't get me started about being up in the tower of some hotel on the strip.  That's a whole other psychiatrists office visit.

I don't like flying by myself. I have never been on a work vacation like that so I don't know what it's like but I hope you find some time to have fun instead of working the whole time.

I am not a fan of flying alone either....but I hope you have a good time and it's not all work.

I love Vegas but terrified of flying. I always get a pit in the back of my throat and I too worry about what would happen to my son if something happened to me. Oy. I think it's ingrained in all of us moms

A little fear is fine- just don't let fear make your
Decisions.

Love u Sis.

I totally have crazy irrational fears but flying isn't one of them. I love to travel! But I understand how it might not be fun for work especially without the companionship. Have a safe trip. You will be fine. I'll say a prayer for you.

After being off the road so long, I could use a business trip with the benefits you mentioned, but no way is work travel as glamorous as it may seem.

Looking forward to your safe return.

I also flew without any fear for years and years but only recently became very anxious while flying.

Wish I were going to Vegas. Have fun.

Since I became a mom I am filled to the brim with irrational fears! I hear you loud and clear. I hope that you were able to get out and have some fun and that you get tons of kisses and hugs when you return!!!

My sister-in-law would fly separately from her husband even when they were going to the same place just in case something happened to one of them while flying.

Now that their kids are 21 and 19, I think they finally fly together, lol!

I was a great flyer, then a TERRIBLE (think many drugs and cocktails) flyer, and now I'm an...OK flyer.

And, I probably shouldn't tell you this, but I had a VERY vivid dream a few months ago, where I was staying at a Vegas Hotel that was bigger than most small cities. I kept getting lost in the hallways, and most of the elevators were super small and traveled all directions- upside down, sideways, etc...
Until I got into an elevator in a super-duper high-rise hotel.
Ugh.
All of a sudden it dropped. Fast, spiraling, and really, really long.
I woke up in that sort of panicked, cold sweat that we all hate waking up to.

Yeah- I'm avoiding Vegas for a while.

(That didn't help, did it?)

I totally "get" the travel for work thing but I hope you find a 'little time" to enjoy your surroundings. As for airplanes ---- I am a white knuckle flyer.
