Holiday Home Tour 2008!

Monday, December 20, 2010

Back around the holidays in 2008 my dear friend and sorority sister Antoinette asked me to send her video of our holiday lights.  She lives in Norway and they don't quite do it like we do in the States.

I had fun making it for her and am sharing it again with you today!  :)  Enjoy.

And Happy Birthday Brother!
And Sara won the tools.

Have another cocktail! The Pete is here today!

Friday, December 17, 2010

His Birthday is Monday!  So here is his gift...he gets to guest post for me!  Ha!

The Sis (Mommy Lisa to you all) has asked me- The Pete to slide a little Holiday cocktail story your way. Well I have spent many a holiday enjoying many different libations (as my High School English teacher called them)

Some of my favs are-

  • "Ho-Ho-Tini" 2 shots of your favorite Vodka, 1 shot of Peppermint schnapps. Slide a candy cane in it for a fun garnish.
  • "Christmas in your Mouth" 1 part GoldSchlager-1 part vodka- add cranberry Juice
  • "Black Santa" 1 part vodka, 1 part Kahlua, 1 part peppermint schnapps

Now all of those are great but do not have a story- I have a cocktail I invented on a holiday- New year’s Eve-Eve (12/30) it’s called "The Bluto"

True Story- this was 1991- My friends and I wanted to party in a hotel for new years- we found out they jacked the room rates on new year’s eve so one of us said- "let's just do it on new year’s eve-eve!" Since we were all young and just wanted an excuse to get together and drink, we all said- "let's do it!"

So we booked two rooms and a hotel and got A LOT of liquor and started in about 6pm on 12/30. We had several folks drinking and staying but a few that came and went during the festivities.

At the midpoint I could not decide what to drink next. I stared at the table o' booze and just started pouring- I added a couple slashes of soda and drank- IT WAS DELICIOUS!

I had to quickly piece together what I made- as to not forget because of drunkenness. It was 2 shots each of vodka-rum-gin-whiskey with coke and sprite to fill the glass.

As I was enjoying my THIRD one- someone asked me what I was drinking- I looked at the TV and "Animal House" was on- it was the scene where Belushi- as Bluto- is downing the bottle of jack

I looked at them and said- "it's a Bluto and it's delicious!"

And so The Bluto was born!
Now later that night- due to the jibber jabber of some folks who had left- our festivities were busted and we were booted from the hotel. That gave birth to our now group famous exclamation- "DRINKIN'!"

But that is another story!

Snow-maggedon 2010

Monday, December 13, 2010

She had a great time out on the deck - and then it snowed about 4 more inches and the wind began to HOWL!!!  Yikes is it cold out there...

Trudge, trudge, trudge...

4 more inches(at least) & the drifting!

Boo Boo Angel
On Saturday BEFORE she played on the deck and while it was still snowing about an inch per HOUR her Pre-K kept on trucking with their pagent!  About 50% of the class did not make it, including Mary.  The principle joked that Joseph was a single parent today...

Check out the my YouTube channel if you want to see those videos.

Today I am loving two blog friends with one post - because you need to give some love to Iris today at

I FREAKING ROCK YOUR WORLD!
And I have a guest post from one of my favorite MN Bloggers - Cathy!

Whoo-hoo!  It IS a fabulous day...let's read it together shall we?

Hello friends of Mommy Lisa!! It's holiday party time and what's the one thing that can take a party from drab to fab? A great cocktail, of course! Lisa asked me to review a holiday cocktail, so I did a little research and found a recipe that is quite fitting for this time of year. I bring you the Poinsettia Cocktail! The recipe I used can be found by clicking here(or just keep reading).

Poinsettia Cocktail
1/4 cup vodka
1/4 cup champagne
1/2 cup cranberry juice
crushed ice
2 strips orange zest, each about 1/4" wide and 2" long

Mix vodka, champagne and cranberry juice in long stemmed wine glass. Add ice, stir until mixture is well chilled. Twist orange strips over glass, drop them in and serve.

This cocktail is easy to make, and I would assume if you're having a large gathering it would be easy to make a big batch slightly ahead of time.

It's definitely festive; the red color and champagne give it a good holiday vibe. This is one of those drinks that tastes innocent enough-light, fruity, bubbly-but will knock you on your ass if you're not careful. The vodka tempers the sweetness of the champagne and cranberry juice, making it easy to drink.

If you're planning a holiday get together this year I'd say the Poinsettia Cocktail is an excellent option for a fun and festive drink. Easy to prepare, easy to drink and, really, can you go wrong with champagne at the holidays?! Cheers!

The Fresh Air Fund

Thursday, December 9, 2010

A few weeks ago a nice lady (Hi Sara) at The Fresh Air Fund contacted me and asked if I might tweet or blog about the organization and how we all can help inner-city youth experience something as simple as playing in the grass.

You take that for granted like me don't you?

Grass?

Rolling in the grass down the side of a hill?

My daughter does that everytime we go to the park.

But kids who live in tough neighborhoods in New York City?  not.so.much.

So watch this video about Brandon Mendoza & The McKnight Family of Cape Cod, then if you are moved go the The Fresh Air Fund's website and do something.

Thank you!
ML

Can more stuff happen to me? Really???

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

So on my way home I stopped for a few groceries...I chatted up the checkout lady about shoplifters at the holiday's after I heard her talking to a co-worker.  We laughed about how obvious some are and I started out the door.

A nice looking tall gentleman was ringing the Salvation Army bell and I had won $9 in the lottery so I put in a buck and told him why...He looked at me and said, "Cool, Merry Christmas!"

I walked out of the store and there was a car running right in front of mine.
I saw its lights and it was a huge white SUV- no missing it.  I just thought,

"Hmmmm."

Loaded up the groceries.
Took my cart to the cart corral.
Began to walk back and get into my car...

The guy in the SUV POPS OUT just as I get to my car door!

You just HIT MY CAR!!!

Uhh, HOW?

I JUST FELT IT!!!

Ummm, my car isn't even on.  What are you talking about...

LOOK - YOUR CAR IS TOUCHING MINE!

okay you see where this is going?  the DORK backed into me and waited for me to come out, but was too stupid to wait until I ACTUALLY GOT IN THE CAR before he accused me of hitting his.

He began to take pictures with his iPhone.

So I did too with my camera.

He wouldn't move his car - so I didn't move mine.

He called the cops and I called my husband.

The cop came - listened to both stories - told the guy to move his car - saw NO damage and told him THAT is what was going in the report.

NO DAMAGE!

WASTE OF HIS TIME! (exact words of the cop, "...waste of time." and "most people would have just looked for damage and left.")

After cop said that MORON actually said, "Well, I have to wash it to see if there is damage." and the cop said, "Well, I am putting in my report there is NO damage."  HA!

Excuse me but I am now swearing on my blog:

ASSHOLE in the SUV - I hope your DICK shrivels up and falls off!

You may now resume your regularly scheduled reading of Mommy's Nest Thursday...

I will be better.  I now have my glass of wine and my Boo Boo La La snuggled up after her bath.

Look at the pretty lights...pretty...pretty...lights.

Random Saturday Dreams

Saturday, November 27, 2010

This morning I woke up - I awoke from some strange and wonderful and heart-breaking and scary and happy dreams.

In my dreams I was a single mom, but much younger than I am now...
Boo Boo La La was still my baby, but she was about 7 or 8 and something tragic had happened to T-bone... Boo Boo and I were living in the big bad city and Mommy was...
Don't quit your day job ML!
Yup, my COVER job was as the headliner in a Burlesque show in NYC.  My REAL job was that I was a costumed crime fighter with a friend that I love and adore like he's a brother - even though I only get to "see" him on Twitter and Facebook these days.  Which is better than the fact I didn't see him at all for years...
We were fighting crime because of the tragedy - but it wasn't helping me feel a ton better, but it was rewarding to "cuff 'em".

I also had a friend in my dreams getting married that I don't see nearly often enough because I enjoy her talks so much.  We are always missing each other at events - one of us can't be there at all or we arrive as the other is getting ready to leave - funny part is she is already married.
Anyway us AOPi's messed her ceremony up but GOOD.  None of us could figure out the correct way to walk in and line up down the aisles....it was pretty comical, even to her.  Can you imagine about 15 girls in peachy colored dresses and high heels bumping into each other and stepping on guests in a sanctuary?  Yeah that was how it was in my dream...

The even WEIRDER thing was that for some reason at different points in my dream people were giving me
I am a bear of very little brain...and long words bother me.
Yup - Pooh Bear's of all sizes and colors and ages...some very old and worn that I was told were mine when I was young, but I don't recall having ANY Pooh Bear dolls.

Aren't dreams strange things?

Hope you had some sweet dreams last night.
