Some people make you wonder.

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

The lady who walks aimlessly around the Y every morning - not really working out, just going through the motions.  It seems more like she needs the company.

The tiny lady who sits in her convertible in the parking lot at work - laying there with her eyes closed and the car running.

The blogger who just stopped blogging one day - who was my friend and now is not even locatable on Facebook.  We used to be friends anyway and I miss him very much.

And then there is myself.  I am kinda weird you know.

I bet you wonder too.  Tell me.  What do you wonder about?

I saw creativity...and it wasn't mine.

My child got some bendy-semi-sticky-pipecleaner-type thingies.  And she sat in the kitchen and twisted them around and came to me with them singing....

It bugged me that she could sit with about 15 sticks of semi-sticky-pipecleaners and come up with a bunch of different things, including a song.

Why can't I do that?

At least I am not as lame as Angelina Jolie's right leg.

Monday Minute - All about myself!

Monday, October 25, 2010

Today is Monday - and we are joining Christy for the Monday Minute - you link up too if you like!

1) Have you ever been hospitalized? (OK, maybe that one isn't so upbeat)

2) What’s the last bit of good news you received?

3) Who was your favorite teacher?

4) Do you sing in the shower?

(5) Describe the happiest day of your life.

  1. Yes, I have been hospitalized.  The worst was when I got an infection from my spine operation - I had a disc pushing on nerves down my right arm and they cut off the part that was protruding - I was in and out in a day for the surgery and back for a WEEK from the infection.  I was REALLY sick and got very weak, but they took good care of me.
  2. That my mom wants to bring pizza over one night this week and hang out with my Boo Boo La La!
  3. I had GREAT elementary school teachers, Ms. Rossum and Mrs. Bleck stand out there - and in High School I really liked Mr. Sinks - I am sure many would disagree with me on him!!!  But my favorite teacher was the lawyer who taught my online ethics class at Capella!
  4. Not out loud; I do hear music in my head frequently.
  5. I would have to say the happiest day was the day I had my daughter.  I was not at all sure I would be good at managing the pain of childbirth, but I was totally surprised at how quickly it all went for us.  Quick summary: I was checked in January 8th just after dinner to be induced January 9th because of my age and blood pressure.  I went into labor in the night and the nurses kept telling me I was not in labor as the monitor was not picking up on the contractions.  About 6:30 am I said if I were not in labor I was going to need an epidural because I was in a good amount of pain already...the shift change was happening so about 8am finally someone showed up to give me the epidural and start pitossin.  The nurse wanted to check how dialated I was and WHOOSH!  My water broke and my daughter shot down the birth canal.  YES, it can happen that fast.  They had to grab a random doctor in the hall as they were on the phone with my doctor telling him they were starting pitossin; my doctor made it to the room just moments after Boo Boo was born and that only took about 20 minutes!  I was so happy it was quick, relatively easy, and that I got such a healthy baby!
10/26/10 update - if it was not clear in the sequence of events - I did NOT get an epidural and had a drug-free birth with my Boo Boo La La.  When the water broke and she started crowning it was too late.  But it was sooooo fast I didn't need them anyway.

Hope you enjoy the Monday Minute and can play along with Christy who took it over from Ian!

Taking a break from the Silly Sonnets 4 Pomp & Circumstance

Friday, August 13, 2010

So today is a good day - but it has been a stressful week.

Yes, we were on vacation last week - but we go to our timeshare we own and I pretty much cook and wash dishes the whole week.  It is not EXACTLY the most relaxing, but we do have a lot of quality time with each other...and there is more wine than usual (and less whine).

The day we got back from vacation T-bone got word that YES he would be working 12-14 hour days all week and possibly the weekend too.  I have had all three kids at home, cooking dinner and ensuring everyone gets to the dentist, work, etc. by myself.  Would not have been too awful, but BooBooLaLa is having a growth spurt that is making her tired and achy and cranky!  I mean I think she grew three or four inches - her Barbie nightgown is now a tunic...like she can't wear it without pj bottoms!

Thank goodness that the weekend work is off due to their speedy work during the week.

Mostly because...

Tomorrow is my Commencement Ceremony

The only bummer of it is that the University no longer "calls out" students who have achieved honors.  So I am graduating Summa Cum Laude - but the only place it will say that is on my diploma.
Not the program - no special tassel - nada.

It kind of makes me sad.  I wanted the recognition of my hard work in getting straight A's over the course of my college career.  Don't you think those of us who worked hard deserve it?

The other bummer is I just have no idea what to wear.  It says to dress like you were going to a wedding and that it will be super hot!!!  And muggy!!! I think this morning I finally decided what to wear - black double-V top and black lightweight Eileen Fisher pants...maybe with my new iridescent purple flats?

So - like I said it is a good day with some not-so-awesome parts thrown in...now if I could just get Whiskey Marie to bring me one of her red velvet cupcakes it would make it all better!  ;)

Sorry for the whine - join me on Twitter for #wineparty tonight and I will make it up to you!
#wineparty starts at 8pm and no - you don't need to drink wine to join!

My worst nightmare...

Thursday, July 8, 2010

So for nine months I ate organic and pared down the caffiene and worked out and slept and rubbed my belly with lotion and talked to my belly and everything...

Then tonight it happened.

My daughter came RUSHING to see something I was telling her about and she had a toothbrush in her mouth and she

AND I GASPED

And she was fine.  She fell on the ball she tripped over with her belly and it prevented the TOOTHBRUSH that was in her mouth from ramming down her throat and really hurting her.

I feel so overwhelmed and blessed and phreaked out and happy all at the same time.

Mom's have a hard job.

Interview with a Monkey...

Monday, January 5, 2009

Dr Monkey VonMonkerstien was interviewed and sent out an offer to interview others. As he and I sat down to chat over the holidays I took a large sip of my Caribou and exhaled in anticipation of the first question.

1) Is Minnesota weather really just 6 months of winter and 6 months of bad sledding? Ha ha ha ha...okay first of all it gets REALLY hot here in the summer. Yes, it has been very cold this winter, but we really just do not get the snow like we used to. Nothing like when I was a kid and had to snowshoe three miles uphill both ways to get to school. In blinding blizzards no less!!
p.s. I LOVE the cold. I always say you can put more clothes on, but you can only take so many off... ;)

2) If you could be a superheroine what would be your super power and what wold your costume look like? I would want to be invisible so I could check up on people...including the boo boo la la. Super-strength should come with that skill, right? And I would look like this...

3) Where did you meet your husband and when did you know he was "the one"? I have told this tale before...
Imagine June 1999 - it is HOT and HUMID in Minnesota and my brother, my buddy Kyle Ann and I decide we need some cold beers and sweaty singing. We head up to NordEast to hang at a place called Arrones -- not sure I would go there anymore, but at the time the bartender Mike* and the Karaoke chick were tons of fun --
We sit on one side of the bar, Mike gives us a cold one, and we begin to pick out our songs. If I remember accurately I probably sang (forgive me)
"Livin' La Vida Loca"
"Heartache Tonight"
"I touch myself."
But, wait! There at the "mic" is a cute guy in polo and shorts - and he is SINGING "Pretty Woman" ....I wonder if he will do the... Oh yeah, he can growl like Roy Orbison, SWEET!
I lean into Kyle Ann and say,
L - There is my boyfriend.
KA - HE's too old.
L - Too old for you maybe. Remember I have a few years on ya babe.
Brother Pete- HEY, should I go get my "Chocolate Salty Balls" cd and sing that?

Polo shirt and shorts finishes singing and starts to work his way around the bar to where we are sitting and gets halted by "Trucker Girl" wanting him to play pool.
L- Bitch, get away from my boyfriend.
KA - You need another drink.
FINALLY about midnight Polo shirt sits at the barstool next to mine -being the smooth chick I am I lean over toward him and say -
"You're cute, what is your name?"
Yes folks that is how I met the madman I am married to...he will say he sang the song because HE saw me first, I buy that, but he will also say that he TALKED to me first and that is a
bold-faced lie.
Just ask Kyle Ann, she was there. Unless she had too many Long Islands that night. ;)
p.s. the line I used on my hubby worked EVERY TIME. If you are single use it tonight!
BUT, how did I know he was the "one"? He did not give up. I tried to push him away thinking it was too fast to be so close to each other, but he just did not buy that. He was the right guy because he saw through me...see, he is the more sensitive of the two of us when it comes to the mushy-love stuff. Poor guy.
4) What are three foods you hate? Hate is such a strong word...I am always telling the kids not to use it. That said the three foods I just prefer to be striken from all menus on the planet are - fishsticks, sauerkraut, and mayonaise. While I realize mayonaise is a condiment...I just HATE it. All forms of it - "salad dressing", Miracle Whip, what-EVER it is gross.

5) What would you rather find in the trunk of your car a dirty stinking to high heaven diaper or a dead skunk? Since my car is a station wagon (and Hubs drives an Aviator) this is highly unlikely, but I would rather find the diaper. Dead animals of any kind skeeb me out! Ewww.
