Movie Monday - Why I love Adam Sandler

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

I will continue to profess my undying love for one Adam Sandler. (I know...it's not Monday, but Boo Boo made me watch this AGAIN last night...)

  1. He does not cheat on his wife.
  2. He is FUNNY!
  3. He makes my daughter AND my husband laugh.
Friday night Boo Boo La La and I watched Bedtime Stories.  And while I will say it is tough for me to imagine Adam Sandler and Keri Russell as a couple, the story was NOT about them.  It was about a goofball reconnecting with his family and not being "underdemciated".

Link up with Messy Mommy to play every Monday!
She also sent me this:

What's your most favorite part of your home?

Is it a special readin nook?
Is it the broom closet you hide in ?
Is it your drawer pulls in the kitchen that took 34 years to re-do?
Is it your deck on a summer night?

Show us in a picture and tell us in words.
What's your most favorite part of your home?
What makes you smile?

Supah and MommyBrain say: Write a POST then come and link up with us!

Despite being a resident of MinneSNOWta I love my deck.

This picture is from last year when T-bone got the hot tub working again.  It had FROZEN SOLID over the winter, board went out and we didn't check it soon enough during a cold snap.

I suggested that we call our insurance company.
They sent out a guy.
He said is was weather related.
We got a check & the guy tried to schedule an appointment to fix the tub.
T-bone fixed it and we pocketed the extra few bucks the insurance sent us!

I also love our deck now because of this lovely birthday gift.

Are you jealous?  I love my lounger with the yummy blue cushion and pull out table.  Perfect spot to read on a sunny morning.  Even if I need a blanket in the spring!
So?  What is your favorite spot in your home?

Boo Boo Saturday - Belly Belly Belly-screen!

Saturday, March 27, 2010

Everyone sends out lovely holiday photocards

We put them up as they arrive each season in my beautiful red velvet French bulletin board.  We talk about who is in each photo and then choose a spot for their photo to hang through the holiday.

Then, as each year passes, Boo Boo La La takes all the photocards to her room and places them in a basket to look at over and over and over...
She has cousins that live far away and she only knows who they are by the photos and phone calls and short visits to us in Minnesota.

Sometimes she brings me a card and says, "Who is this again Mama?"

Sometimes she brings the stack and sits by me and says, "This is Alex, and Luke, and THIS ONE is NICK!"

The other day I was in the closet getting dressed for work and she brought me a card and said, "Hey Mama, this is Minnie and her cats..."

"Chaos and Catastrophe?"

"Yeah, 'tastophe.  And Amy and David, but where is baby Douglas?"

"Right THERE.  Right in Amy's tummy.  He wasn't born yet then."

"OH!  Can we get a baby out of YOUR tummy Mama?"

"Nope.  You were the only  baby in Mommy's tummy.  Sorry."

"I was in your TUMMY?  Was I scared in there?"

"Nope.  You liked it and you were happy and warm in there."

"Oh YEAH.  And I played with your water and sucked on my thumb.  It was DAAAARK in your tummy."

Whatever you say baby.  Whatever you say.

The Gay 90's - Bone Thugs N' Harmony - Tegan and Sara & My Feria!

Friday, March 26, 2010

Okay - here are some random bits from a week that was pretty random-ly fun!
  1. I got home from the Y this morning and T-bone said, "I really like your hair color."  umm - duh Pavlov it is Feria Pure Diamond; the color I was the day you met me...it is my "go to" haircolor.
  2. I am going to lunch with Candice today - I need to figure out a suggestion where to go...
  3. Boo Boo was clinging to the window sill next to her bed when I tried to get her up.  It was really cute & she convinced me to cuddle with her and then read a book before actually getting up and dressed.  I picked my favorite story - Tiny Rabbit goes to a Birthday Party! - she loves it too.
  4. Tomorrow I am making the KILLER lasagna!
  5. I got my haircut because I have the bestest sister-in-law on the planet!
  6. I have the most AMAZING friend in the world because of another dear old friend.  Thanks Amy for being Josh's roomate, thanks Josh for marrying Becky.
  7. I got to eat awesome pizza with Becky this week and wander over to see a great concert.  (thus the Friday video...it is FROM THE ACTUAL SHOW...I did not take it.

My review of Tegan and Sara's show - we missed Holly Miranda, Steel Train made me feel old because they kept talking about 7th grade angst!!!

Tegan and Sara?  OMG I love, love, love these women!  I have heard a few of their songs, but the show made me a big fan.  They are funny and likable and their music reminded me of two things, the 80's with the electronic-y stuff they did and Kate Bush.  Sara has the most AMAZING voice that reminded me of the delicate strength of Kate Bush.
I hope she thinks that is a compliment!

Happy Friday my little love palms!

Jane you ignorant slut!

Probably the last "good season" of Saturday Night Live occurred when I was in Junior High...After that season everyone quit, except Brian Doyle-Murray...and he is too grouchy.
I mean, is it SNL without Lorne Michaels at the helm?

Anydebatetopic, we had a teacher named Mr. Finnegan and he was the wildest English teacher on the planet.  He read Tom Sawyer aloud to us in class and put his heart and soul into making the characters come alive for a bunch of white, middle-class, midwest, t(w)eens.  No easy feat.

Saturday Night Live, or SNL, had a hold on the public lexicon - it still does.  (Really?  Really?)  And one young girl in Mr. Finnegan's English class had picked up on a word she found HI-LAR-I-OUS!
(close your eyes if you are sensitve!)

DILDO

She used it CONSTANTLY.  And one day she said it in class, something like,
"Jeez John, don't be such a dildo!"

However, she had no earthly idea what the word meant.  Mr. Finnegan decided this girl needed a lesson in how to UNDERSTAND the words that are coming out of your mouth...

"Miss "K", do you KNOW what a dildo IS???"
"ummmmm"
"Well, Miss K, a dildo is a device used to simulate sexual intercourse.  In other terms a vibrator."

plunk - the sound of EVERY girl in the classes jaw dropping onto their desk!

"Miss K, do you think you would like to CONTINUE using that word in reference to your classmates?"

snort, snicker snicker - all the boys have now recovered the shock...

"ummmm"
"I did not think so, sit down."

Yes, ladies and gentleman, an exchange that would not get past any jr. high audience today - Finney would have been FIRED.  This is as recalled by the many retellings of the story that day - how I WISH I were in that English class, but I BELIEVE it...you would too if you knew Finnegan
(plus, we knew that Miss K used the word all the time, we ALL did.  and now we knew what it MEANT!)

Here is a clip from SNL around that time.  What do kids know about s.e.x.?  Nada.

Thanks JennyMac for the inspiration today!  Big Hug!

The MUST HAVE jean of 1984...

Monday, March 22, 2010

Here is the deal - once again - we are playing with

an all about ME Meme

I MUST have it Monday!

What was it?
A benetton shirt?
Converse sneakers?
Jelly shoes?
There was ONE item that you wanted when you were a youth.
What was it?
You know, the one your begged and pleaded for.

The one you sold your soul for?
Show us a pic if you can and tell us a story about how you got it.
You know how this works!
Write us a post.
And Link up with us !

This was Mommy Lisa's must have item of 1984...I remember all too well that the "cool kids" had these jeans...the tell-tale label across the zipper and the loop!

This mysterious loop below the button?  What did it mean?
Where you supposed to pull it up over the button???
These jeans bewitched my 16 year old self...I had to have them, but my mother thought $39 was WAY too much to pay for jeans...she had already bought me three pairs of "Limited" brand jeans anyway.

No, if I were to have them I had to pay for them myself....

Luckily, I had a job and access to my parents car!  So I drove to Ridgedale (which I thought was WAY cooler than Southdale at the time) and bought a pair, returning home promptly to wash them three-four times as was suggested by friends AND the sales girl at The Limited.

Why?  I cannot even recall, but I do recall the dang things stretched out quite a bit after wearing them...and the cut kind of made me look "boxy".
Considering I was a toned swimmer who weighed about 118 that is pretty sad!

Conclusion:  I hardly ever wore the dang things...except their debut at our Mistletoe Madness dance.  I just thought they looked stupid on ME!   I wore my Limited jeans cuz they made my tush look the most awesome and mini-skirts to show off my legs.  Good thing the next big jeans were Guess - they looked way more awesome on me!

Thanks to eBay for having sellers hawking old style Girbaud's!  :)  Yuck...the most ugly things on the planet now that I look at them.  Would not be caught dead.  But, I prefer trouser style jeans or SUPERDARK these days.
(and to think I grew up in the acid wash eighties?)

Outing to the Coffee Shop

Saturday, March 20, 2010

When I was pregnant and realized that Boo Boo La La would be born in

JANUARY

in

MINNESOTA

the one thing I was determined NOT to do was hole up in the house and be afraid to take her outside.  I mean you have got to get over it...we have the Urban BundleMe, we have warm cars, warm clothing, and she would be about 50% Norwegian...100% Minnesotan!

We were planning an outing to my aunties coffee shop one evening when Boo Boo was almost 2 months old.  It was February...and it was
WAY BELOW ZERO!
We had this outing planned to see a band at the coffee shop with my parents and both of my aunties would be working that night.  We went - and even dragged my step-daughter with us.

You can see how in love with Boo Boo my dad is right here...even Auntie Becky sees it...

Auntie Becky wanted to hold her - she was not psyched about us taking her picture, but she wanted that baby!  Auntie Lois thought she was too dirty from working in the kitchen, but she oood and ahhhd.

It was fun and everyone survived the trip across NE Mpls to the shop and home.
even if it was
                                                                           WAY
                                                                                    BELOW
                                                                                                 ZERO

Spring is Friggen Awesome!

Friday, March 19, 2010

On Saint Patty's Day I opened this on my way to my folks...

I had my hubby's Aviator to take my Aunt Penny back to Albert Lea from her trip to Florida.
about 60 Wednesday and Thursday?
I say my parents and Aunt Penny brought Florida home with them Tuesday night....

Of course today the weather stinks.

But this song MNMom posted is friggen AWESOME.

You know WHO else is awesome?  My friend Becky...I am so proud to be able to call a fun, positive, smart and BTW gorgeous woman my friend.  Our kids even get along!!!  Could you ask for more?

YES I CAN!  Go check out her blog(s) - she has fun recipes & ideas when she gets around to it at

Has pictures, interesting videos, and if you like smart talk about science-y geek stuff, she is also your gal!

That is all - you are free to roam the blogosphere!

Wordless Wednesday Jam - with SOME words

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Okay - I might be sort of a phreak - my two favorite songs by The Police are

Tea in the Saraha

and

Shambelle

What?  You NEVER heard of Shambelle?  It is a jam that Andy Sommers put together and it was ONLY on the B side of Every Little Thing She does is Magic.
                                                                                                             and I own the 45.

Yes.  A 45 - I am THAT old.  I have a few 45's and albums.  Go 'head - call me granny...
its okay.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day to you all!

POST IT! And then play yourself too!

*t-bone, I just want an un-biased opinion...nothing more.  I wonder if I am over-reacting?

Boo Boo Saturday - using your words is awesome!

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Today - because Mommy has to turn in her final paper of her college career.
YEAH - WHOO HOO

She is teaching Sunday School AND going out to lunch with a dear old friend today - you get this short story.

Last night, on my way home from work, I called to let T-bone know I was on the way...we were going out to dinner with some friends who are expecting TWINS!  yeah for them...

Boo Boo answered the phone, I did not know T-bone had pushed the button and just given the phone to her at the time, I was surprised to hear her:

Hello!
Hi baby, how are you?
Is this Mommy???  Hi Mommy!  Where are you?
I am on the road and heading home...
You are coming home?  (T-bone in the background YEAH!!!)  Daddy is excited you are coming home!  And the pizza truck is coming to bring me and Jake and Zach and Sarah pizza!

Wait, did she just say "Daddy is excited?"  I had never heard her use that word before.  I just love when she uses words, new words, words in new ways.  Isn't that just the best feeling that they hear what you say and apply it in their own special way?  Now, if we can KEEP her from using the bad words....ahem.

Maybe Mommy better clean up her trucker-mouth?

The one where Boo Boo La La Questions the wisdom of The Spice Girls.

I FORGOT THAT!!!   The thing above on my post for "Just Dance Yer Bloggy Off!" with Shell and Supah!

THIS is NOT my entry - this was just too funny not to share as my Friday Video.

Have a Happy Friday!!!

I am gonna Just DANCE! Bloggy!

Remember, Mommy is a "work in progress" - she has lost 20lbs and still looks like Chubby Old Spice with severe motor-skill issues...and I stuck my tongue out for no apparent reason a few times.

Whatever!  Check my score after owning Just Dance exactly ONE WEEK!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Movie Monday - Don't Judge...I like bad cinema on occaision.

Movie Monday @ Messy Mommy

I am playing Movie Monday with Messy Mommy because for ONCE I actually watched a movie this weekend.

My hubby was looking around "On Demand" because there really was not much on television and he found this movie.

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS

We saw another Seth Rogan flick, Zak and Miri Make A Porno recently and that was so DARN funny that I thought...what the heck?  Let's watch it.

Okay it was funny.  Not like Zak and Miri where I almost peed my pants funny, but still good.  Not for the kids of course, there is a lot of use of bad words and they say C-word rhymes with block a LOT!

It felt like this:
Saul: I think we should stay!

Dale Denton: Why?

Saul: ...Cause I'm in the dumpster already!

Mommy's Nest - An Update

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Thing one:  I had been noticing a lot of url's that matched the names of the blog vs. .blogspot.com and asked my favorite St. Paul/Chef/Wild Woman blogger Mrs. VonPartypants if she felt this was worth the $10 to GoDaddy.com.  Her final comment in her reply was, "I say go for it- it's only $10 and then at least no one else can have it."

Touche!

so I took my url .wordpress.com too, just in case!  And BTW if you like bloggers who dress up, talk about poop, animals, general drunkeness, food and mayhem (not necessarily in that order) and if you are impressed that you can GOOGLE "f***ing awesome chocolate chip cookies" and get the top results linking you back to HER...follow her blog please!

and the cookies?  f***ing awesome!

SO If you have a spare moment and can change the URL that guides you to me it is now...

http://www.mommysnest.com/  Go ahead, I will wait...

That was easy, right?  If you don't do it blogger will still get you here from the old url, they promised!

Thing two:  I had not written a funny story about Boo Boo La La lately...the whole point of this blog is to embarass her when she is twelve...so I am promising now to have some sort of fun story about Boo Boo La La from the recent (or not so recent) past to share each Saturday.  This will be easier since I won't have school anymore starting March 19!
Yeah Mommy will graduate with honors!  Whoo Hooo!

I have a pretty good one today.  If you like fart stories that is....you don't?  Well, you have not been here for the poop stories then, huh?

I remember it like it was Thursday morning, because it was Thursday morning.  Boo Boo and I were ready to leave and I went around the house ensuring lights were off and no dangerous articles were left burning somewhere.  I got back to where Boo Boo was in the dining room and she was leaning against the table and making funny faces...upon seeing me she said,

My butt itches, so I am trying to fart.

Hmm-mmm, farting makes it stop itching?

YES MAMA, you know THAT!  (more faces and butt sticking out)  I can't fart and my butt itches!

Maybe you will fart in the car like Daddy, come on let's go.

Okay, that might work....

Ahhh, yes.  Imagine the joy of a pre-teen Boo Boo when she hears she tried to learn to fart on command to releive butt itchiness.

I would say my work is done here for today.  Have a farty-party weekend!

PURPLE PURPLE PURPLE, or P U R P L E

Friday, March 5, 2010

In honor of My Life in Purple's Fabulous Friday today we will speak of Purple and write in purple...

MLIP passed along this super cool award to me yesterday...and her challenge (one of them) on
Fabulous Friday
was to highlight a blogger we find
FABULOUS!

so this yummy award goes to...

I just found this lovely woman's blog and have to share it with all of you.  She writes of life with such passion it is hard not to enjoy yourself while reading...even when it is about more serious topics.  So go now...click that link above and read what she has to say.

Then COME BACK.  I have this cool video for you to watch.  Actually two today!

I was listening to the radio this morning, as always.  And they played this cool tune and I was thinking it reminded me of Jet playing Prince.  But it is really a band called OK GO and their song White Knuckles.

Apparently Feewaybill57 at YouTube agrees with me...

Oh - and some people have posted the new Prince tune on YouTube too - the DEBUT of the song was on the one the only THE CURRENT 89.3 - you can listen live on the web and be cool like us Minnesotan's too.

I think it sounds like Prince playing November Rain era Guns N Roses, but that may be just me...

Side note.  I MIGHT have told you this before, but I went to high school with Prince's bodyguards daughters(seems removed, but their Dad drove them around in Prince's Limo and he made tapes for them to sing and dance to in pagents and pepfests - even gave them Vanity Six costumes!) ...my entire high school was OBSESSED with Prince.
It did NOT help that he lived about five miles away.
was that ENOUGH purple?

OMG - an early video.

You may have to cover the kids eyes...

All About MEme...I guess here is where I OVER-achieve!

Monday, March 1, 2010

Supah and MommyBrain strike again!

...guess that is better than striking OUT!

This MEme is all about your first pucker!  And here is where I overachieve...

I was in KINDERGARTEN!  Yes, at the ripe old age of five my friends and I took turns at recess chasing
Dean Bisek
...because if we caught him...we could give him a smooch.
and DANG if he were not the cutest boy EVAH!

Let's just say the teacher even helped us chase him to pinch his cute little cheeks...so not happening in this day and age!!!

So, what is your deal?  Were you five or forty-five...link up and tell your side of the story!
