School Starts Next Week.
Monday, August 29, 2016
I sure hope you are having as great of a summer as we are - we spent time with family, went to a wedding in Houston, celebrated a friend earning their Karate Black Belt at TEN YEARS OF AGE!!! Went to San Diego, swam, ran around and enjoyed the general merriment of the warmer months.
School starts a week from tomorrow - so of course we have to fit in some end of summer fun!
State Fair anyone?

We ate, rode, and saw cool people like Senator Amy Klobuchar!
We pet the animals - everyone but Grandma who said, "No thank you."
We bought stuff, made stuff, and showed Dad where to get something for ME! :)
And of course we rode the big slide, but got a TERRIBLE video this year.
Watch this one instead!

I posted my first video on YouTube on November 7, 2006. I did it so I could email it to friends and family.
It went like this:
Fun - Huh? No?
Well, I got more adventurous.
See? From November 2007 - we can now rake!
And then in November 2008 we learned to Vote - not Boat!
And in March of 2011 We shook it like we just didn't care who was watching at the MN Zoo!
And now - Boo Boo even has her very OWN YouTube Channel with gems like this one with Gma.
What I learned from Ten Years of YouTube? It's fun to look back at how silly we can be...
And YOU? (Tube?)

If you have spent any time on this blog at all you know that I spend time telling you about this little goofball...
Boo Boo La La is the biggest reason I get up in the morning. She is fun to be around,(most days!) She is super creative and smart. And she has a FLAIR for fashion.
Who could ever forget the Project Runway Boo?
I could not ask for a better child. I am truly a lucky mommy to have this child. Not because she is smart or funny or a snappy dress-up partner...
She is thoughtful and kind.
She wants to hold and feed her baby cousin, she wants to help friends with their school work, she put on a magic show for the "little kids" at daycare, she thinks about how other people feel.
Since pre-school every teacher has described her as a "mother hen".
I want my child to be kind to others no matter what.
Not naive, just kind.
Where does that come from? How did it happen?
Give it away, give it away, give it away now....

So CUTE!
FYI, to make a fun party for toddlers - all you need is bubble soap and a few bubble wands. ;)

JewelMint?
Sunday, April 3, 2011
So have you seen the ads on Facebook? JewelMint is Kate Bosworth's jewelry version of Kim Kardashian's ShoeDazzle...
From the site: "A cool jewelry line by Kate Bosworth and Cher Coulter... The site gauges your style and curates a selection of jewelry for you to choose from. " -InStyle Magazine
Okay - they sent me a survey and I got 60% off so I thought I would try it out.
P.S. They have NO idea I am blogging about their jewelry. I got the offer by signing up at the site and not purchasing anything.
So the Metal Mosaic Ring at JewelMint is valued at - uhhh - $109.99. You can, or could, get it at the site for $29.99. Of course I got it 60% off that and I conclude - it is no where NEAR worth over $100...
If I saw it at Target on clearance for $8 I would buy it.
I felt pretty much the same about ShoeDazzle. Non-leather shoes for $30? I can get leather on clearance at Macy's for less...
So, am I cheap? Have you tried JewelMint or ShoeDazzle and disagree?
Tell me.

I found the perfect card that talked about rule breaking and fun having. Granny let us do all kinds of crazy things at her house.
- Make corn-husk dolls
- Make up games
- Cook, bake, blender up a shake - and mix a martini or two
- Color with the iris and day-lily blooms we dead-headed
- Go swimming
- Be silly
- Stay up late and listen to the radio - even call in to those late night programs
- Play Scrabble
- Tell stories to each other in bed
- Sleep out on the porch
- Inspire, Love and Adore

Here is something she might love!
I was watching Food Network last weekend...per usual. And I watched not one, but TWO hosts make a chicken stew of some kind. It put me in the mood, but since I was NOT in the mood for beans Saturday with the idea of refried later that evening at my in-laws I made this stew up out of my head.
Enjoy.
3 Sausages - I used Chicken Apple without casings - here is where you can be flexible, use what you like. I would suggest staying away from a spicy sausage as it would negate the herbs I used. I considered Chicken Garlic/Spinach and a mild Itallian - but I just LOVE Chicken Apple.
1 chicken breast diced - raw or cooked/leftover - I was using up a lonely little breast in a bag from my freezer. See, more flexible. You could even use turkey - or just put in two more sausages and no chicken breast!
1 cup rice uncooked - 2 cooked! (so semi-flexible here)
1/2 cup white wine - unless you are opposed, use more chicken stock.
4 cups of stock - I used chicken of course. But you could substitute vegetable if you prefer.
The important parts are next and I don't consider them flexible!
3 carrots
1 large onion
1 red bell pepper
1/2 cup corn
2 T. Olive Oil
1 T. Garlic chopped
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
2 bay leaves
1 tsp. thyme - dried
1/4 t cumin
Directions: Put two tablespoons water, carrots sliced to 1/4 inch and sausages in pan - cover over medium heat for five minutes until steamy. Remove lid and brown sausages. Remove sausages and carrots, set aside on a plate. Add onion, thyme, salt and peper, and olive oil to pan and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes on medium heat. Add raw chicken and cook through about 5 minutes more. (If using cooked chicken you can just add after onions are translucent).
Deglaze the pan with 1/2-1/4 c. white wine that you would drink.
Add in red bell pepper sliced, cumin, garlic and cook on medium for 2-3 minutes.
Add stock, rice, bay leaves bring to a boil, reduce heat and let simmer for 15 minutes. Then check salt and pepper to see if you need more. (if rice is cooked just heat through at this stage)
Add in corn, sausages sliced 1/2 inch thick and the carrots and let simmer for five minutes.
Serve and enjoy!
Of course it was even better the next day.

4) Share a photo that captures your special Valentine(s)
This is an old photo from @BooBooLaLa's first trip to our vacation timeshare at Breezy Point.
I don't know how we look LESS tired when she was a baby and MORE tired now that she is five. We must be OLD.
I will be back with a review and giveaway - once it warms up and I get enough fluid back in me from having the flu...

And here we have @Iambooboolala modeling her latest design from her "UPS Truck" collection. Note the subtle tone-on-tone stripe down the front of this lovely frock acheived using tape and an overlapping tecnique - very advanced!
And the shoes are fashioned after a style worn by noted fairy, Tinkerbell. More kudos to 3M for supplying the tape used in this fashion-forward design.
Look for more @Iambooboolala fashions next time!

THIS MAMA
I am also rockin' fall in my favorite boots, knee-hi, sweater skirt combo...
Tales of the J-Dogg:
So he is recovering from jaw surgery of course...and I have been adamant about getting breakfast in him before school this first week back.
Whilst I was cooking up his oatmeal this morning he said he was going out to "...turn his car around."
Uh, yeah. Okay.
Goes out...comes in...huffs. Goes back out, comes back in, huffs.
"My key fob won't work when the doors are locked."
Ummm. Genius much? You didn't test it BEFORE you shut the locked door with the car running??? And what frozen hell do you think is going on out there that you need to be "warming up" your car??
IT IS FIFTY DEGREES outside and we live in MINNESOTA!!!
Thirty minutes later we got it open.
sigh.
I love being in sweaty gym clothes in my yard at 6:30 am.
And the cat got out.
At least I am still looking FABULOUS! Even my boss said, "Wow Lisa you look NICE today."
and he is a guy...
